"Absolutely amazing! SubtitleYourVideo performs so many of the services that we outsourced in the past at high cost. And it increased client satisfaction, because they participate in the process."

Srt files

Srt files are special text files that import into YouTube to generate YouTube subtitles (aka "YouTube captions"). The content of the srt file synchronizes the text of each subtitle to the timing of the words as spoken in the video. The srt file contains the information that YouTube requires - the time to display each subtitle and the text to display. The contents of an srt look similar to this:

00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:06,000
This is the first subtitle

00:00:06,000 --> 00:00:10,000
and this displays starting at 6 seconds

00:00:10,000 --> 00:00:14,000
This third subtitle ends at 14 seconds

Edit lists and other subtitle files

Edit lists come in a wide variety of formats that vary with each software including DVD Studio Pro, Avid, Adobe Encore, and others. @International Services has recently created an "Srt File Converter" for the purpose of offering a Free Conversion Center on the web to transfer such files from one format to SRT for YouTube. The link to this Free Converter is found on the Home Page of the @IS software called Subtitle Your Video.

Converting to YouTube srt files

If you already have a file that contains the subtitle text with the video time assigned to each subtitle ( the start time of each subtitle), you can probably convert your file to the YouTube srt format using the Free Converter at Subtitle Your Video. For example, you will click to import your existing file then click to export as an srt file. This file converter also has a "time offset" field, so that if the timecode in your imported file starts at 20:00 (twenty minutes) but the YouTube movie starts at 0:00 (zero), then all timecodes will be adjusted by twenty minutes.

Subtitle Your Video's Free Converter is compatible with approximately 20 import file layouts, including many captioning files, Excel, MS tables, DVD studio pro, Avid, Adobe Encore, and more. Note that many files differ from version to version even within the same source software, so if you do not find your exact file on the list or experience a software hiccup, just email a sample to @International Services and your file layout will be quickly programmed into the software for easy import in future.
